Fatal Crash on SH1 Whangarei side of the Brynderwyns

A serious accident has been reported by Police involving up to 4 vehicles with at least 1 fatality and 2 others in a serious condition.

Emergency services are currently at the scene with diversions in place for both north and south bound traffic.

Northbound traffic is being directed through Kaiwaka on the Mangawhai road, coming out at Waipu on State Highway 1. South bound traffic is the opposite as mentioned.

As @ 1900 hrs, traffic flowing in one lane over the Brynderwyns. Transit doing stop start north and south bound

Police advise the 3 vehicle collison which occured as stated has resulted in the death of a 27 year male who was one of two occupants of one of the vehicles. The other male from the same vehicle is a 29 year old who is in a serious condition and has been transported to Whangarei Hospital.

A 3rd male from one of the other vehicles is also in a serious condition and is also at Whangarei Hospital.

Enquiries are continuing as to the circumstances of the crash and the affected section of the road has been re opened.
