Tell me, What has this “anti smacking” law actually achieved? Have any of these people who are so dead set on making sure parents can’t discipline their children actually read the news paper or seen the news lately ?
A march to protest the Government’s lack of action following the so-called anti-smacking referendum has been announced today.

It makes me laugh when I see comments like
Does anybody else see irony in the half-wits announcing a march for the right to beat children..
I’m sorry, there is a difference between giving a child a light smack and beating the crap out of them to the point they end up in StarShip Childrens Hospital and the dopey mother being charged. Did the new Anti Smacking law stop that. NO! and it never bloody will.
People who are going to “beat” their children will do it, With or without a law preventing them from doing so.
I think the past few cases have already proven that. Besides, wasn’t it already illegal to cause “Grievous Bodily Harm” to another person. Isn’t that already covered under the law?
New Zealand is so stuck up itself with political correctness we now have a generation of kids who don’t respect the law, their teachers at school or other people for that matter.
It makes me laugh when out with my two children, Watching these “Oh don’t do that darling” parents trying to keep their children from breaking stuff. Then on the other hand, the parents who just don’t care that their little toe rag has just pocketed something from the Warehouse.
But when security gets involved, It’s not their children’s or their fault. Umm, Wake up and smell the coffee, yes it is. It’s sure as hell not the Warehouse’s fault your kids are starting to go down the line of crime.
What does the law do about those situations. Oh, I believe that’s usually just a “Don’t do that again” and from what I can gather, they don’t even get a slap over the wrist with a wet bus ticket. As that would be considered assault by some of these Politically Correct people we have making laws that don’t work.
Maybe I’m just lucky with my two children. Don’t get me wrong, I do NOT condone causing physical injury, to a child or anyone else for that matter.
But it seems to me that New Zealand, has just lost the plot when it comes to raising children in today’s society.
